John Setka Has Quit The Top Job as CFMEU Secretary in Victoria

Secretary of the CFMEU's Victorian branch, John Setka, has resigned from the top job.

The Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union confirmed on Friday evening Mr Setka had quit the top position he has held for the last 12 years.

Mr Setka has been a long-term union official for almost 40 years.

In a statement from the CFMEU he blamed "relentless" news stories written about him as the reason for his decision to step down.

"To the members of the CFMEU, you have made me incredibly proud, and it has been an honour and privilege to be your secretary, for that I say thank you," he said.
